Building a project that target .NET Framework 4.5 in Visual Studio 2022

Error MSB3644: The reference assemblies for framework “.NETFramework,Version=v4.5” were not found. To resolve this, install the SDK or Targeting Pack for this framework version or retarget your application to a version of the framework for which you have the SDK or Targeting Pack installed

For some reason, the oldest version of .NET Framework for which a developer pack is available is 4.5.1.
I could just retarget my libraries to .NET Framework 4.5.1, but I just don’t want to.

There is no developer pack for .NET Framework 4.5

Luckily, there is an easy solution!

1) Extract the .nupkg from Microsoft.NETFramework.ReferenceAssemblies.net45 NuGet package.
2) Then, copy the files from that package build\.NETFramework\v4.5\ to C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\.NETFramework\v4.5

That’s it!
Visual Studio can now build projects that target .NET Framework 4.5.
I hope this helps someone, because I couldn’t find any useful information about this on the web!

How Hackers Can Transfer Money Out Of Your Bank Without OTPs

For starter, I have seen few Facebook post whereby a lot of cases whereby unauthorized transaction occurred from their online banking account.
I am a software developer for more than 12 years now and specializing in most of the technology which include web and mobile application.
Now, technology getting advance day by day and some people might use it for the bad intention.

You would saw a lot of promotion which provide you special discount or free “money” in either social media, game which required you to download an app to complete the transaction.

How to consider your phone security has been compromised?

Install Unknown Apps (Samsung S10)

Install Unknown Apps (Samsung) / Unknown source installations in the Setting.
This setting prevent the installation of malware.
If this setting is enabled, the installation can happen without your knowledge.
However, it also applies to anyone who downloads apps that are not available in their region or people who download pirated versions of video games and apps.
Make sure the authenticity of the apps.

Normally, when one downloads an app or an update from Google Play or App Store, the store automatically installs the application for them.
Most apps on Google Play and App Store go through some form of security check before they are readily available to users.
Direct downloading APKs from unofficial sources runs the risk of having malware on users’ devices.

After installing the APK (an app you download from an unofficial source, you maybe need to create an account or provide SMS permission to the app.
This allow the app to read and delete SMS that you receive.

Apps with SMS Permission

I have seen quite some news recently about how their money could have been transferred out without receiving any OTP notification.

Why?

The application already have SMS permission to read and delete SMS.
They read and delete them directly without you knowing it.
With this, they basically can do anything.
From changing your bank account phone number to transfer all the money out from your account. (Without a trace)

Here are some suggestion to avoid becoming victim of hackers:

  • Install application from unknown source with caution and don’t turn on “Unknown Source Installation” in Settings
  • Check the apps in your phone regularly and delete unused app immediately
  • Remember the security photo of your online banking accounts and if you don’t see the right photo, it is not the real online banking portal
  • If the page ask for both your username and password in your online banking account, it is also not the real online banking portal also
  • Remember to check which apps have permission to access your SMS and make sure you only allow this feature to apps you trust.

Monitor & Mouse Upgrade

It’s nearly the end of the 2nd quarter of the year 2022.

I stumbled upon Logitech MX Master 3 and this mouse is a perfect replacement for MK720 as both can switch between PC plus it’s USB-C charging.
It’s a perfect time as My MK720 Triathlon Wireless Mouse from the Logitech MK850 Performance Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo has been malfunction a bit and it’s time to get a new mouse.

Next, my monitor has been in Full HD (1080p) for quite sometime and it’s time to upgrade to 4K resolutions.
Since I am working in Dell, why don’t I purchase monitor from Dell.
Hence, I found a perfect monitor with HDMI and Display Port and within my budget.

Windows 11 Is Here And Here’s How Users Can Get The Free Upgrade Now

Windows 11

Microsoft’s new and free operating system, Windows 11, is now being released.
Devices that are shipped out with Windows 10 will be able to upgrade to Windows 11 for free.
However, it is worth noting that this new operating system requires at least Intel 8th Gen Coffee Lake or Zen 2 CPUs, Trusted Platform Module 2.0 support, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage space.
This is the reason I upgraded my old PC to new PC few weeks back.

As Microsoft will be pacing themselves when it comes to the rollout of Windows 11, not all compatible existing PCs will be able to upgrade to the new operating system just yet.
The full rollout will be complete by mid-2022, when every eligible device will be offered the free upgrade.

To get that free upgrade to Windows 11 now, follow these simple steps:

1. Use Microsoft’s PC Health Check app to find out if your PC is supported.
2. Back up important files and data.
3. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update to check for updates.
4. If Windows 11 is available for your PC, there will be an option to download and install it

There will be some who won’t see the option to download the operating system even though their PCs are supported. In that case, they can either wait for the option to become available, or manually download Windows 11 with one of the following options:

  • Windows 11 Installation Assistant
  • Windows 11 Installation Media (to make a bootable USB or DVD)
  • Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO)

ROG & My New WorkStation

It’s been a while. 😂
The next generation of Windows is here.

As per my previous post, I just upgraded my graphic card few months back and bring some PC gaming life to my 10 year old PC.
Then, Windows 11 coming soon (which already released October 5th 2021) and the processor requirement for the new Windows quite high.
Hence, I change most of the hardware exclude the HDD, SDD and graphic card which I purchase beginning of this year.

Below is my updated PC specification:

ASUS STRIX Z490-I GAMING (Intel® Z490 Chipset)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700
GSKILL F4-3200 RAM 8GB x2
ASUS ROG Z11 Gaming Case
ASUS ROG STRIX 850G
AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT
Kingston SA400 120GB
Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB

LG 27″ 27MP59G FHD IPS Gaming LED Monitor x2

Astro Go in Smart TV, Android TV, TV Box (Updated 26 JUN 2021 & Still working in 2024)

Smart TV, TV Box & Android TV widely available.
However, a lot of TV Box seller provide some information whereby I personally think is inaccurate especially on free live TV channel.
FYI, most of the “free” IPTV channel provided by unofficial source are unreliable due to they don’t have budget to support high bandwidth and spec of IPTV server.

Astro, one of Malaysia Pay TV has provide mobile and web application to watch on demand content or even live TV channel for their subscriber.

Most of the people would love to use this app to watch on TV.
Astro GO app previously able to install in most of TV Box in the market.
However, latest version of the app only can install in mobile phone plus unable to cast screen to TV.

Now, Astro GO app unable to login even with the correct credential if you install in TV Box or even in Android TV OS.

Astro GO Website with Line Walker: Bull fight

There are few solution for this.

  • HDMI cable extend screen to TV and use Astro GO website.
  • Cast Chrome desktop screen (Astro GO website) to Android TV

Google Chrome Browser Menu

If anyone encounter black screen while cast to TV, kindly disable the Chrome “Hardware Acceleration” settings as the below screenshot.

Battery Fully Charged Notification (For One UI Bixby Routine and iOS Shortcut)

As time goes by, phone battery discharge easily and we might need to fully charge the mobile device 2 times daily.
Basically, we can do something in order to prolong the battery lifespan such as:

  • Don’t overcharge (Even though the phone software does help to disconnect the power source once fully charged)
  • Try to charge from low battery and charge until 100%

I would introduce some settings that provide notification when the mobile device fully charged.
For now, it’s iOS and Samsung device since I owned S10 and iPad.
I would only used existing features that available within the OS itself.

For Samsung, it would be the Bixby Routines. (Settings – Advanced features – Bixby Routines)
Bixby Routines currently have the IF option to select Battery level equal to 100%.
You could refer to the screenshot below.
I am also introducing another Routines that already pre-defined inside to save battery.

Fully Charged Bixby Routines

Save battery at night Bixby Routines

The notification for my Bixby Routines is not that alerting as you seen from the above screenshot.
However, there is some other “Then” action such as Play song in Spotify.
I would prefer to put notification tone instead.

iOS use Shortcut instead.
Shorcut is an application that come with iOS.
It does come with a lot of things that can be done compare with Bixby Routines.
You could refer to the screenshot below for my automation in Shortcut.

Last week been a busy week as I purchase a new graphic card for my PC.
From Nvidia GT650 to AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT.

My original plan was to get Nvidia card.
However, due to RX 5500 provide a lot of ports, cheaper price and my monitor compatible with AMD Free Sync, I choose Radeon RX 5500.

Below is my updated PC specification:

Intel Core i5-3470
HyperX RAM 8GB x2
CoolerMaster Extreme 2 RS-525-PCAR-D3

Use your phone as a webcam for Streamlabs OBS

I have been using an old Logitech webcam C170 and the result is not that good. (You could see from my Streamlabs OBS stream before November 22nd)
As I lurking around Lazada and new webcam does cost quite a lot of money.

Then, suddenly one thing come into my mind.
Why not use one of my old phones that lying around the house?
Most of the phones are capable of taking pictures and recording at a higher resolution plus better quality than your typical webcam.
This makes them an ideal replacement for a webcam when streaming, especially when there is one just lying around which is my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

So let’s get started.

To use your phone as a webcam, you will need two things to install in both your phone and desktop application.

DroidCam Wireless Webcam for Android and iOS
Windows or Linux client app which you can download from here

First, download and install the app on your phone.

Once installed, go through the setup wizard, give the app the required permissions (record audio and video) and you’re done.
The app should display information like the IP address and port on which it’s streaming the video.

DroidCam IP and Port

Next, you need to download and install the client for Windows or Linux.
Once you’re done, launch the desktop application and fill in the IP address and port number just as they show up in the Android application.
Here come your brand new webcam!

DroidCam Client screenshot

Final step is adding the video source into Streamlabs.
To do so, open up Streamlabs OBS and click + to add a new Source.
Basically, “Webcam” or “Video Capture Device” should be okay.
Source would be “DroidCam Source”. (Mine come out as “DroidCam Source 3”)
For me, all the default setting is fine.
When you’re finished, click “Done”.

One of the problems when using phones as webcams is getting them to sit in a steady position, preferably at a certain height and angle.
You can solve this problem using a smartphone tripod.
I have Samsung ITFIT Tripod that I got from Samsung Reward prize and for streamer who reside in Malaysia, you could try your luck in the Samsung Pay app.

Streamer Journey

CYLIM87 Facebook Gaming Page

Since Movement Control Order (MCO) impose in Malaysia due to Covid-19, I have start my journey to become streamer.
Most specifically, game streamer.

I love video games ever since I was a child and I don’t want to just play game.
I want to contribute to the gaming community and maybe socialize with the world while playing the game.

I believe that most of the world have access to Facebook (FB) Gaming and have personal FB account.
Next, create a FB page with the category “Gaming Video Creator”.

1st step is complete.
Next is streaming setup.
There is a lot of streaming software out there.
However, I only use this 2 which is Streamlab OBS and Omlet Arcade.
Both pretty straightforward to stream your game in your FB page.

Omlet Arcade Logo

I will start off with Omlet Arcade.
This is mobile application which stream directly from your phone.
It does have desktop streaming but I mostly use it in my phone instead.

Streamlan OBS (SLOBS) Logo

All-in-one live streaming software, Streamlab OBS (SLOBS).
This is a Windows Desktop application and I not that familiar with mobile application.
SLOBS contains quite a lot of widget and scenes to make your livestream a bit interesting.
It’s a bit difficult to setup but once you get used to it, you would love this.

AirServer Logo

I myself sometime would love to use SLOBS Desktop to stream my mobile game.
So, I need to cast and mirror my mobile display to desktop.
I introduce you The Universal Mirroring Receiver, AirServer
Basically, you could use any mobile devices and wirelessly mirror display over to my PC (AirPlay + Google Cast + Miracast).
However, this come with 30-day trial and consumer license cost USD19.99 for 1 activation.
There is a lot of free mirror display software out there but I personally not a fan of mirror display using wired connection.

Up until now, I believe all set for your first stream.
Do leave comment below if you have any question.

FYI, below is my page Insight for from October 27th until November 23rd.
Basically, my post reach more than 3000 peoples and at this point of time not that much.
I hope that in the future, it can reach much further and let us grow the gaming community.
