Use your phone as a webcam for Streamlabs OBS

I have been using an old Logitech webcam C170 and the result is not that good. (You could see from my Streamlabs OBS stream before November 22nd)
As I lurking around Lazada and new webcam does cost quite a lot of money.

Then, suddenly one thing come into my mind.
Why not use one of my old phones that lying around the house?
Most of the phones are capable of taking pictures and recording at a higher resolution plus better quality than your typical webcam.
This makes them an ideal replacement for a webcam when streaming, especially when there is one just lying around which is my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

So let’s get started.

To use your phone as a webcam, you will need two things to install in both your phone and desktop application.

DroidCam Wireless Webcam for Android and iOS
Windows or Linux client app which you can download from here

First, download and install the app on your phone.

Once installed, go through the setup wizard, give the app the required permissions (record audio and video) and you’re done.
The app should display information like the IP address and port on which it’s streaming the video.

DroidCam IP and Port

Next, you need to download and install the client for Windows or Linux.
Once you’re done, launch the desktop application and fill in the IP address and port number just as they show up in the Android application.
Here come your brand new webcam!

DroidCam Client screenshot

Final step is adding the video source into Streamlabs.
To do so, open up Streamlabs OBS and click + to add a new Source.
Basically, “Webcam” or “Video Capture Device” should be okay.
Source would be “DroidCam Source”. (Mine come out as “DroidCam Source 3”)
For me, all the default setting is fine.
When you’re finished, click “Done”.

One of the problems when using phones as webcams is getting them to sit in a steady position, preferably at a certain height and angle.
You can solve this problem using a smartphone tripod.
I have Samsung ITFIT Tripod that I got from Samsung Reward prize and for streamer who reside in Malaysia, you could try your luck in the Samsung Pay app.

Streamer Journey

CYLIM87 Facebook Gaming Page

Since Movement Control Order (MCO) impose in Malaysia due to Covid-19, I have start my journey to become streamer.
Most specifically, game streamer.

I love video games ever since I was a child and I don’t want to just play game.
I want to contribute to the gaming community and maybe socialize with the world while playing the game.

I believe that most of the world have access to Facebook (FB) Gaming and have personal FB account.
Next, create a FB page with the category “Gaming Video Creator”.

1st step is complete.
Next is streaming setup.
There is a lot of streaming software out there.
However, I only use this 2 which is Streamlab OBS and Omlet Arcade.
Both pretty straightforward to stream your game in your FB page.

Omlet Arcade Logo

I will start off with Omlet Arcade.
This is mobile application which stream directly from your phone.
It does have desktop streaming but I mostly use it in my phone instead.

Streamlan OBS (SLOBS) Logo

All-in-one live streaming software, Streamlab OBS (SLOBS).
This is a Windows Desktop application and I not that familiar with mobile application.
SLOBS contains quite a lot of widget and scenes to make your livestream a bit interesting.
It’s a bit difficult to setup but once you get used to it, you would love this.

AirServer Logo

I myself sometime would love to use SLOBS Desktop to stream my mobile game.
So, I need to cast and mirror my mobile display to desktop.
I introduce you The Universal Mirroring Receiver, AirServer
Basically, you could use any mobile devices and wirelessly mirror display over to my PC (AirPlay + Google Cast + Miracast).
However, this come with 30-day trial and consumer license cost USD19.99 for 1 activation.
There is a lot of free mirror display software out there but I personally not a fan of mirror display using wired connection.

Up until now, I believe all set for your first stream.
Do leave comment below if you have any question.

FYI, below is my page Insight for from October 27th until November 23rd.
Basically, my post reach more than 3000 peoples and at this point of time not that much.
I hope that in the future, it can reach much further and let us grow the gaming community.

AI News Anchor

TL;DR: MBN introduces Korea’s first AI news anchor

As my previous post about technology will replace workforce in the near future, cable channel MBN became the first broadcaster in Korea to report the news with an AI (artificial intelligence) announcer.
MBN has turned its news anchor Kim Ju-ha into an AI entity that is fully controllable by the company.

It is said that the virtual news anchor — dubbed as AI Kim — is almost identical to her human counterpart, both in terms of looks, nuance, and the sound of her voice.

“I was created through deep learning 10 hours of video of Kim Ju-ha, learning the details of her voice, the way she talks, facial expressions, the way her lips move, and the way she moves her body,” said AI Kim, adding, “I am able to report news exactly the way that anchor Kim Ju-ha would.”

You can watch Kim talk with her AI counterpart below:

Is the Judgement Day from the Terminator franchise is coming?
A post-apocalyptic future where robot technically take over the world and human being is at the brink of extinction.
Back to the real world, we need to familiarize with the technology so that we won’t become obsolete is the future.

ZeroSSL: SSL Protection for Anyone

Most of the website required to have SSL in order to up their rank in Google Search since 2 years ago as per mentioned in here.

HTTPS encryption protects the channel between your browser and the website you’re visiting, ensuring no one in the middle can tamper with the traffic or spy on what you’re doing. Without that encryption, someone with access to your router or ISP could intercept information sent to websites or inject malware into otherwise legitimate pages.

If you search for an SSL platform, you will come across a number of options including some paid providers.
Today, we’ll talk about ZeroSSL (It also known as “SSL For Free” previously), offering a completely free platform for SSL certificates for your website, domain or backend system through an easy-to-use UI and API.
With ZeroSSL, you can get single domain, multi-domain and wildcard certificates for free through ACME, and you can also create 1-year certificates with an affordable subscription plan.

ZeroSSL gives you an intuitive management console that allows you to configure new SSL certificates, initiate validation and installation, and manage existing certificates.
It also includes expiration reminders, developer settings to access or reset API access keys, and more.
With ZeroSSL, you get one-step email validation, automatic Certificate Signing Requests, CNAME Validation, and HTTP file uploads.

I have been using this platform for more than 1 years with Free Plan and upgrade to Basic Plan for few months already due to the free package comes with 3 90-day certificates only.

Head over to the company’s website now to learn more and try ZeroSSL’s free SSL protection today.

Ever since I move in, I have change a few computer table.
This one currently by far the best of them all.

Tomaz Armor Gaming Table Cup Holder

This cup holder also can be mobile phone holder as well. 🤣

Next is 2 gaming monitor which is LG 27″ 27MP59G FHD IPS Gaming LED Monitor.
I also bought HDMI Switch in order for me to use 1 of the monitor with my working laptop.

Personal Monitor

Working Monitor

Next is wireless keyboard and mouse combo.

Logitech MK850 wireless keyboard and mouse combo makes it easy to comfortably work across multiple devices for increased productivity.

Basically, I’m using this for both working laptop and personal computer.
Luckily my working laptop using Logitech Unifying Receiver USB previously, I can easily pair up my new keyboard and mouse combo.

Anyway, this is not a sponsored post.
However, I welcome all partnerships and business opportunity.

Chrome will mark all HTTP sites as ‘Not secure’

With just left 2 more days (Which is in July), Google Chrome will mark all HTTP sites as “not secure,” according to a blog post published at February 8, 2018 by Chrome security product manager Emily Schechter. Chrome currently displays a neutral information icon, but starting with version 68, the browser will warn users with an extra notification in the address bar. Chrome currently marks HTTPS-encrypted sites with a green lock icon and “Secure” sign.

Google has been alerting users away from unencrypted sites for years, but this is the most powerful alert yet. Google search began down-ranking unencrypted sites in 2015, and the following year, the Chrome team instituted a similar warning for unencrypted password fields.

The Chrome team said the announcement was mostly brought on by increased HTTPS adoption. Eighty-one of the top 100 sites on the web default to HTTPS, and a strong majority of Chrome traffic is already encrypted.

Kindly secure your website now with free SSL certificate if you subscribe Exabytes Linux Shared hosting.
